Global law firm Greenberg Traurig expanded its tax practice with the addition of Shail P. Shah as shareholder in the firm’s San Francisco office. Shah focuses his practice on state and local tax matters, including litigating complex franchise, income, and sales tax matters across the United States. He previously worked at the California Franchise Tax Board. Shah also provides state and local tax advice related to corporate restructurings and mergers and acquisitions. Shah most recently worked as a partner at Reed Smith.

Downey Brand has recently welcomed associate Brian C. Aton to the firm’s litigation and bankruptcy practices. Aton joins the firm following his work as a law clerk for Judge Jennifer E. Niemann of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of California. Prior to moving to California, Aton gained bankruptcy and litigation experience at several firms and organizations in Atlanta while attending law school. Among these positions, Aton worked with the HeLP Legal Services Clinic assisting families facing legal issues that threaten health and access to care. In addition, he worked as a pro bono volunteer for the Southern Poverty Law Center.
