Abortion foes on Friday succeeded in their decadeslong battle to overturn a woman’s right to abortion when a conservative majority of the U.S. Supreme Court dismantled the landmark abortion rights decisions, Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

Justice Samuel Alito Jr. led the 6-3 majority, writing: “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely—the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”
