A bankruptcy trustee has cut deals with at least eight law firms to take over the representation of a large share of the thousands of Tom Girardi’s clients who had pending claims after the sudden collapse of his law firm, Girardi Keese.

To identify clients, Elissa Miller, the trustee in the Chapter 7 proceedings of Los Angeles-based Girardi Keese, has sifted through piles of disorganized files at the defunct firm’s downtown Los Angeles office. So far, she has uncovered $20 million in missing client settlement funds, while litigation funders, vendors and others have asserted secured claims of more than $25 million.
