Democrats’ bill to expand the U.S. Supreme Court may be all but dead on arrival in Congress—but lawmakers have their eyes on a number of other pieces of legislation touching the federal courts.

Since the start of the new Congress, Democrats in the House have held a wave of hearings on the federal judiciary, from the Supreme Court’s “shadow docket” to judicial diversity. Lawmakers from both parties in the House and the Senate are preparing to reintroduce bills increasing transparency, or drafting new legislation to expand the size of the district courts.
