Jhaton White spent the morning of March 13 anxiously waiting for his phone to ring.

He’d been instructed to be on standby—his fellow members of the Cardozo Law Review were voting on the next editor-in-chief and the decision could come at any moment. When the call came, it was good news. White would be at the top of the Volume 43 masthead, making him the first Black student to lead the flagship journal of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
