Global internet giant Google has struck a deal with one of Australia’s largest media companies to pay for its content ahead of a proposed Government code to force tech giants Google and Facebook to pay news organisations for content they display in search results and feeds.

Television and newspaper company Seven West Media said on Monday it and Google had agreed to form a long-term partnership to provide news content to the recently-launched Google Showcase product. The companies have signed a letter of intent ahead of a full agreement within 30 days, Seven West Media said.
