U.S. Chief District Judge Phyllis Hamilton and Judge Jeffrey White of the Northern District of California will be taking senior status at the end of the month, joining their colleague Judge William Alsup in a wave of judicial vacancies paving the way for new appointments from President Joe Biden.

Hamilton, the last active Clinton nominee on the court, sent a letter Jan. 20 to Biden officially announcing that she would be stepping into semi-retirement beginning Feb. 1, according to a court representative. Hamilton, who is 68 years old, will take senior status after 29 years on the court and six years as the Northern District’s chief judge.
