Bay Area Legal Aid will receive a Pro Bono Innovation Fund grant of $346,602 from The Legal Services Corp. The grant will be used to partner with pro bono attorneys on the Fair Bargain Project, which trains pro bono attorneys to assist in consumer rights clinics and helps clients with consumer issues. Legal Services Corp. has provided 15 grants from its Pro Bono Innovation Fund, which awards projects for low-income legal aid clients for the last five years.
Buchalter promoted two attorneys to shareholder in California: Oren Bitan in Los Angeles and Paul Fraidenburgh in Orange County. Bitan’s practice focuses on matters in business, real estate, banking, receivership law, consumer products and commercial litigation. Fraidenburgh represents transportation industry clients in complex litigation and regulatory affairs.
Jodi Fedor joined Shartsis Friese as a partner in its San Francisco office. Fedor will join the real estate group, where she will bring her experience handling commercial real estate transactions. Her client list includes developers, investors and tech companies. Most recently, she was a partner at SSL Law Firm.
Hinshaw & Culbertson promoted attorney Peter Felsenfeld to partner in its San Francisco office. Felsenfeld focuses his practice on insurance coverage disputes, reinsurance, and bad-faith liability actions.
Foley & Mansfield relocated its East Bay office. Previously in Oakland, the new office will be located at 2185 N. California Boulevard, Suite 575, in Walnut Creek. The firm’s first office in California opened in Walnut Creek in 2001 before moving to Oakland in 2007.
Michael Kopp joined Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer as counsel in the labor and employment practice. He focuses his practice on federal and state court actions regarding claims of employment discrimination, harassment, and wage infractions, and will be based in the San Francisco office.
Mary McCutcheon was named president of the American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel. She’s a founding member of the counsel and has served as chair of its membership committee. McCutcheon is a partner at Farella Braun + Martel.
Shana Ramirez joined Katten Muchin Rosenman as a partner in the Century City office. Ramirez will be joining the commercial finance, representing financial institutions and corporate and private equity clients. Previously, Ramirez was a senior associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.
Perkins Coie brought on Adrian Rich as a partner in its Palo Alto office. Rich will be part of the emerging companies and venture capital practice and has experience advising emerging companies and investors. Previously, he was a partner at Dorsey & Whitney.
Michael Shortnacy joined the Los Angeles office of King & Spalding as a partner in the trial and global disputes department. He focuses his practice on commercial litigation and disputes regarding the defense of consumer protection actions. Previously, he was a partner at Sidley Austin.
Holland & Knight brought on Thomas Yoo as a partner in its Los Angeles office. Yoo will head the products liability life sciences team and focuses his practice on commercial disputes and products liability matters.
Seyfarth Shaw brought on partner John Yslas to its Los Angeles office. Yslas will be part of the labor and employment practice. He advises on wage and consumer class actions in state and federal court and also has a litigation practice with pretrial, jury trial, arbitration and appellate experience. Previously, he was a partner at Norton Rose Fulbright.
