A Delaware County jury has awarded more than $40 million to the family of a 6-year-old who suffered a spinal injury during birth. According to attorneys representing the plaintiff, the award is the largest personal injury verdict from a Delaware County jury.

In 2015, plaintiff LLBM LLC, a York-based firm, was assigned a promissory note of $50,000 by Gary Lucas. The note had been issued in June 2003, by real estate company Prime Properties Inc. to Lucas, who had loaned it money. The company issued the note, which was payable on demand, as a pledge to repay Lucas. Eventually, in 2015, Lucas assigned the note to LLBM.

On April 21, 2014, plaintiff Shana Leedie, 35, a salesperson, was driving a sport utility vehicle on north Interstate 95, in Philadelphia. When she was near the Front Street on-ramp, she became stopped in traffic and her SUV was rear-ended by a sedan. She claimed injuries to her neck, left shoulder, and back.

On Sept. 10, 2013, plaintiff Martha Martin discovered water damage to her home, on Lafferty Ave., in Pittsburgh. She found that a toilet had leaked, causing a significant amount of water to flood in her house. She had been away from her home since April of that year. The water allegedly damaged ceilings, walls, carpeting and personal property.

On Sept. 20, 2015, plaintiff Abdelaziz Ewis, 32, owner of an electronics store, was driving a sedan on N. Roosevelt Boulevard in Philadelphia. After he stopped at a red light at Woodward Avenue he was rear-ended by a pickup truck. He claimed neck and back injuries.

On the night of Dec. 8, 2013, plaintiff Suzanne Whitley, 67, a sales representative and administrative assistant, was walking her dog in Norristown. She was on Taft Road, a suburban residential street. When she was near number 3127, she slipped on a patch of ice and fell on her right hand as she extended it to brace her fall.
