State senators are attempting to set Pennsylvania’s minimum age to marry to 18, a measure New Jersey recently legalized.

Sens. John Sabatina Jr., D-Philadelphia, Judith Schwank, D-Berks, and Guy Reschenthaler, R-Allegheny County, issued a memo on June 20 declaring their intention to introduce an amendment to Title 23 of the Pennsylvania consolidated statutes that would set 18 years old as the minimum age to marry in Pennsylvania, with no exceptions. On June 22, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation that sets 18 as the earliest age a person can be issued a marriage license in New Jersey.
