In the wake of several high-profile grand jury investigations in Pennsylvania, the state Supreme Court has enlisted a team to re-evaluate how grand juries operate.
Two judges, three private practice lawyers, a prosecutor and a law professor have been enlisted to serve on a task force to the grand jury process and issue a public report with suggested improvements. In its announcement, the court mentioned issues that played a role in the criminal cases and appeals of former Attorney General Kathleen Kane, serial child molester Jerry Sandusky, and Penn State University officials Graham Spanier, Gary Schultz and Tim Curley—issues that sometimes left appellate judges second-guessing the process.
