Eleven applicants for generic top-level domain names believe there’s no domain like “.home.” But even more — 13 — are “.app”-happy, seeking to register that term, made popular by iPhones and Droids, as a domain name.

On June 13, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers announced that it had received 1,930 applications for the new generic top-level domains, which extend to almost any word in almost any language. In addition to “.app” and “.home,” the most contested are general terms including “.inc” with 11 applications; “.art” with 10; and nine applications each for “.blog,” “.book,” “.llc” and “.shop.”
