Pennsylvania’s federal courts consistently handle a myriad cases and 2016 was a year in which some of the most significant ones, some with lasting national impact, were decided in the state’s three federal districts.

In the Eastern District, it was a year of conclusions for three major cases: the settlement of the national lawsuit against Amtrak over the May 2015 Philadelphia train derailment, the dismissal of the multidistrict litigation against Pfizer Inc. over the antidepressant Zoloft and the corruption case against former U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, D-Pennsylvania.
