As 2016 comes to a close, Pennsylvania’s energy industry, and the lawyers who serve it, have experienced a roller coaster of legal and regulatory change, causing them to be hopeful in some cases and heed caution in others. But the long-term effects of these changes are yet to be seen, and will likely become more clear in 2017.

In the past year, energy lawyers have dealt with push and pull from a variety of factors, all affecting their outlook for their legal practices. In Pennsylvania, where the Marcellus Shale brought growth in energy-focused practice groups and boutique firms, those lawyers adjusted their expectations based on price fluctuation, legal and regulatory overhauls and an election that shocked the country.
