A Lehigh County jury has awarded $2.39 million to a woman who alleged that a knee injury following surgery caused her to require a wheelchair for mobility.
The 12-member jury found that Lehigh Valley Hospital and nurse Kristina Michels Mahler (referred to as Michels in the plaintiff’s pretrial memo) were negligent, causing harm to plaintiff Betty L. Shiflett. Shiflett, of Macungie, underwent knee surgery at Lehigh Valley Hospital, then suffered a fall that required additional surgery, which was unsuccessful.
