An understanding of the world outside of the United States is critical for courts in a rapidly globalizing society, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer said Sept. 17 at a speech in Philadelphia.

Breyer spoke before members of the World Affairs Council gathered in historic Congress Hall on the grounds of Independence Mall about issues he covered in his recently published book, “The Court and the World.” Breyer’s visit also coincided with Constitution Day, which commemorates the signing of the Constitution in 1787.
