The Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel is scheduled to host a luncheon CLE program at the Philadelphia Racquet Club beginning at 12:15 p.m. March 18.

Elected and Appointed

Neal R. Devlin was elected to serve on the board of directors of Knox McLaughlin Gornall & Sennett.

He has been with the firm since 2002 and was elected as a shareholder in 2009.

Devlin focuses his practice on litigating complex and commercial disputes in state and federal courts throughout the country.


Sean L. Phelan joined Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby as an associate in the general liability group.

He will be located in the firm’s Philadelphia office.

Phelan focuses his practice on general liability, liquor liability and construction.


Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads partner Ellen Brotman served as course planner, and Chairman Richard Scheff served as faculty, for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute‘s “Defending the White-Collar Case” program.


As part of The Legal’s upcoming Professional Excellence Awards supplement, the three finalists for the Attorney of the Year have been named.

The Attorney of the Year Award recognizes an attorney who had the greatest impact on the law, legal profession or cause of justice in Pennsylvania within the past year.

The Legal will invite all three finalists to be honored as part of an awards dinner May 29, and we will announce the winner that night. The identity of the winner will be kept secret until then.

The finalists for the 2014 Attorney of the Year Award are:

Zane Memeger, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Witold “Vic” Walczak, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania.

Profiles of each finalist and the work they did to merit consideration for this award will be included in the supplement to be published April 8.
