Elected and Appointed

Mary Ann Plankinton-Peach, a partner in MacElree Harvey’s Kennett Square, Pa., and Centreville, Del., offices, was elected to the board of the Delaware SPCA.

The Delaware SPCA is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to the elimination of animal cruelty, neglect and overpopulation by providing services for people and their companion animals.


Lauren E. Hokamp joined Abom & Kutulakis effective October 19.

Beth M. Henke joined Reed Smith as a partner in the labor and employment practice in the firm’s Pittsburgh office.

Henke has been involved in aspects of the defense of employment-related actions in federal and state tribunals. She has also handled Sarbanes-Oxley litigation at all levels of the administrative and federal process, as well as defended class and collective actions involving wage-and-hour and discrimination issues.

Laura B. Kurtz joined the Harrisburg office of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott as an associate in the firm’s public finance group.

She focuses her practice in the area of public and municipal finance. Kurtz regularly assists in financing transactions involving Pennsylvania counties, cities, townships, boroughs, school districts and municipal authorities.

David P. Franklin also joined the firm in its corporate and business counseling practice as a member in the Pittsburgh office.

He was previously a partner and chair of the business/corporate department at Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti.


The United Methodist Foundation of Western Pennsylvania selected Franklin Blackstone Jr. of Goehring, Rutter & Boehm as its 2012 Founders’ Day Award recipient.

Blackstone’s practice includes estate planning and administration.

Steven H. Lupin, managing partner of Hamburg, Rubin, Mullin, Maxwell & Lupin, was named “Trial Lawyer of the Year” by the trial lawyers section of the Montgomery Bar Association. A reception was held in his honor at the bar association.

Lupin is a past president of the bar association and experienced in aspects of personal injury, business and commercial litigation.


Stephen G. Yusem announced the opening of his practice and service as a full-time neutral in dispute resolution matters.

He will be conducting arbitrations and mediations not only in the Delaware Valley, but nationally and internationally as well.


Lori Shemtob, a founding partner of Shemtob Law, spoke to a group of 30 women at the Klein Jewish Community Center in Philadelphia on what they have to know about their finances.

The attendees were members of the Shalom Tamid Group of Hadassah, the women’s Zionist organization of America.

Shemtob has been practicing divorce and family law for over 20 years.
