Elected and appointed
Daniel E. Cummins, a partner with Foley, Comerford & Cummins, was appointed as vice president of the North region of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute at the group’s annual meeting at the Bedford Springs Resort in Bedford, Pa.
He was also re-appointed to continue to serve as the co-chair of the auto law committee of the PDI.
Several Cohen & Grigsby attorneys spoke during the Pennsylvania Association of Housing and Redevelopment Agencies ‘ 2012 Spring Conference and Expo at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania. Four firm attorneys spoke at the following sessions during the conference:
• Michael Syme , a partner and head of the firm’s affordable housing practice group, served as a co-speaker during a presentation titled “Fiduciary Responsibilities of Affiliates and Instrumentalities.”
• Blaine Lamperski , a partner with the firm, spoke during a presentation titled “Marcellus Shale and Utility Companies: How to Deal With Them as a Property Owner.”
• Michelle Yarbrough Korb , a partner with the firm, served as a co-presenter on the topic of “Tax Credits — Year 15″ during an educational session.
• Alice Mitinger , a partner with the firm, served as a co-presenter during a session titled “PA Open Records Act — New Developments in the Law and Best Practices for Compliance.”
Richard B. Somach, a member of Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, is set to present “Sheriff’s Sales and Tax Sales” at “A Day on Real Estate — East” today at the CLE Conference Center in Philadelphia.

Somach focuses his practice on real estate, commercial law and creditors’ remedies, representing real estate development companies, shopping centers and local banks.
Eva P. Hershey joined Peacock Keller as an associate.
Hershey concentrates her practice in estate planning and estate administration. Her previous experience includes general civil law, juvenile dependency, family law and criminal law.
Daniel H. Brean rejoined the Webb Law Firm after completing a yearlong clerkship with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit under Judge Jimmie V. Reyna. He assisted the court in its resolution of issues of patent law.
Brean is an intellectual property attorney with a background in physics. He works primarily with mechanical, electrical and software technologies.
James W. Pfeifer joined Pepper Hamilton as an associate in the firm’s commercial litigation practice group, resident in the Pittsburgh office.
Prior to joining the firm, Pfeifer was an associate at McGuireWoods .
Jonathan H. Spadt, CEO of RatnerPrestia, is set to attend the 40th Republican National Convention on Aug. 27-30 in Tampa, Fla., as a delegate representing Pennsylvania’s Sixth Congressional District. •
