Feb. 7 was the first anniversary of a profoundly important day for Pennsylvania public school students and for all of us who have tried so hard to create an adequate, equitable and racially just school funding system.

On that date last year, the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court issued a decisive ruling holding that Pennsylvania’s school funding system violates the education clause and equal protection provisions of our state constitution by failing to adequately fund all school districts and by discriminating against students in low-wealth communities. The ruling emanated from a lawsuit that we and our co-counsel—the Public Interest Law Center and O’Melveny & Myers—filed in 2014.
