Conflicts between a prosecutor’s duty to turn over potential impeachment materials and the reputational rights of accused police officers took center stage Tuesday as trial got underway in a lawsuit Philadelphia’s police union brought over a so-called “do not call list” of potentially problematic officers maintained by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.

Arguing for the Fraternal Order of Police, which is the bargaining unit for many in the Philadelphia Police Department, John Bielski of Willig, Williams & Davidson said police officers are owed a due process right to be able to challenge being placed in the District Attorney’s Office’s database of officers allegedly considered too problematic to testify in court.
