A New Jersey lawyer who helped obtain a $1 billion NFL concussion settlement is accused in a suit of fraudulently shifting assets to avoid repaying a $2.3 million litigation funding debt.

Craig Mitnick, a solo practitioner in Marlton, New Jersey, used some of the money advanced by litigation funder Balanced Bridge Funding on the NFL case to buy a house in Margate, New Jersey, then fraudulently transferred ownership of the property from his law firm to himself and his wife, according to the suit. Mitnick also put a second mortgage on the property to further frustrate the litigation funder’s collection efforts, the suit claims.
