Philadelphia city officials have no legal justification to remove a statue of Christopher Columbus from Marconi Plaza, according to a strongly worded order from the Court of Common Pleas.
The Tuesday order—reported to have been issued by Common Pleas Judge Paula Patrick—reversed a decision from the Philadelphia Board of Licensing and Inspection Review that affirmed the city Historical Commission’s July 2020 decision in favor of taking that statue down.
