Most of Pennsylvania’s midsize law firms that were approved for loans from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) have been exempt from paying anything back, according to federal Small Business Administration (SBA) data compiled by ProPublica in July.

At least 13 of the 17 most populous law firms in the commonwealth have been forgiven for first-round PPP loans from April 2020. That amounts to $67.3 million in federal cash allocated to the 13 firms to support 3,414 jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic, which doesn’t need to be repaid.
