I am an attorney who has received a suspension many, many years ago and was reinstated. I have had no problem since and have done well in my law practice. The first thing that comes up on the computer during a search of my name is the fact that I had discipline many years ago. Can that get expunged after a period of time?

The unfortunate answer is no. The only thing that ever gets expunged is an informal admonition after five years if there has been no other discipline. That is automatically expunged by the Office of Disciplinary Counsel. Otherwise, once one is disciplined, the discipline remains. Some discipline would not be known such as a private reprimand, but a public reprimand, public censure, disbarment or suspension is there forever.
