In a battle waged over eight months and in multiple courts, the Greenberg Traurig team, led by shareholders Greenberg and Pratt, conceived and executed the critical strategy to push this matter into Pennsylvania state courts. The matter hinged on state law interpretation, and Pennsylvania state judges have a long history of defending voting rights. The strategy proved consequential as the team prevailed in September with a 5-2 decision in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in Pennsylvania Democratic Party v. Boockvar. The ruling safeguarded provisions for early voting, allowing voters to submit mail-in ballots in authorized drop boxes around the state, and ordered a three-day extension after Election Day to receive those ballots. It was a game-changing victory that ultimately would withstand multiple challenges from the Trump campaign—including several showdowns in the U.S. Supreme Court.
