The full range of issues currently vexing courts over the intersection of social media and due process rights was on display during a Pennsylvania Supreme Court oral argument May 18 in a case involving a student who was expelled over a meme shared on Snapchat.

Arguments in the case, captioned J.S. v. Manheim Township School District, largely focused on the due process standards that should apply when a student shares a meme outside of school, which later becomes widely disseminated throughout the student body.
