It is well known the role of in-house counsel has evolved over the last decade, and especially amid the COVID-19 crisis. The 2021 General Counsel Report found they continue to face increased challenges along with the need to build organizational resiliency, and 81% said COVID-19 has impacted their scope of work. Nearly all of the respondents (97%) said that the general counsel’s role is becoming more broad.
With many serving now as strategic business advisers, it should come as no surprise that the modern legal department is also more integrated—information technology, employee relations and corporate communication are all resources that both support and rely on collaboration with legal. Recently, we surveyed in-house counsel members of the Association of Corporate Counsel in one state chapter to learn more about how corporate attorneys are interacting with their communications colleagues.
