A grocery store clerk who bought a lottery ticket after learning that it held the winning number cannot keep the $4.15 million award, the Pennsylvania Superior Court has ruled, wading into an apparent issue of first impression over who is the rightful owner of the ticket.

The case, Acme Markets v. Seltzerstems from a decision by Acme store clerk Beverlie Seltzer to purchase a Pennsylvania Lottery ticket that had been initially printed for and then rejected by a customer. Seltzer had bought the ticket for $10 after discovering that it was a winner.
