Taking a strong stance on the jurisprudentially divisive issue of personal jurisdiction over out-of-state businesses in Pennsylvania, a district judge in Philadelphia has ruled that a passenger injured on an international British Airways flight may continue her lawsuit in the Keystone State.

U.S. District Judge Berle Schiller of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has ruled that because British Airways registered as a foreign business in Pennsylvania, it consented to be sued in Pennsylvania. The ruling rejected the airline company’s motion to dismiss the personal injury lawsuit that plaintiff Amina Diab brought against the company earlier this year.
