U.S. District Judge Matthew Brann recently landed in the spotlight for spiking the Trump campaign’s lawsuit seeking to block the certification of the election results in Pennsylvania, a ruling that has earned him bipartisan support and attacks by the president.

Brann is a longtime conservative, appointed to the bench by President Barack Obama in 2012. The judge heard arguments in the Trump case last week, including from President Donald Trump’s private attorney Rudy Giuliani, and on Saturday dismissed the case, a move seen as effectively ending the Trump campaign’s last attempt to alter the state’s election results.
