An “attorneys’ eyes only” order compelling defendant law firms in a Pennsylvania Dragonetti action to produce tax returns and other financial documents for the purposes of plaintiffs seeking punitive damages was a “proper exercise of discretion” by the trial court, because it “properly balance[d] the parties’ competing interests,” a state appeals court has ruled.

“Courts can and should craft discovery orders that strike a proper balance between … privacy interests [of the parties disclosing information] and the rights of other parties,” wrote the Superior Court of Pennsylvania in its opinion.
