With remote work all but ubiquitous these days, office space can be more of a burden than a benefit. But some law firm leaders are trying to capitalize on the new environment by focusing their hiring on remote lawyers, which allows them to optimize the space they have and to keep overhead low while continuing to expand into new markets.

“I like to think the optimal size of Kleinbard at 50 lawyers. We have office space for about 45 lawyers,” said Matthew Haverstick, managing partner of the Philadelphia-based firm, which has recently hired a slate of largely attorneys. “With our model, I don’t need more office space.”
