The state House of Representatives fell five votes short Sept. 23 of overriding Gov. Tom Wolf’s veto of a bill that would have given school districts the power to regulate attendance at high school sporting events.

Wolf’s veto of House Bill 2787 was upheld after 130 state lawmakers for override with 71 in opposition. It takes a two-thirds vote—135 in the House—to overturn a governor’s veto. The measure had passed three weeks ago with a “veto-proof” margin of 155 votes. The veto was sustained because 24 Democrats who had agreed to final passage of the bill chose not to defy Wolf.
