DLA Piper‘s Dallas office, which earlier this month added lateral partners from Andrews Kurth Kenyon, expanded further with two litigation partners from Dentons.

C. Michael Moore, who had been managing partner of Dentons’ Dallas office, moved to DLA Piper along with Matthew Nickel.

“I am convinced that DLA is very intent on growing their Dallas office and actually all of their offices in Texas,” Moore said. “They are going to put a lot of effort and resources into that.”

Moore also said the firm has bench strength and expertise in its national pharmaceutical litigation—a practice area in which he and Nickel do much of their work.

Nickel added that their practices overlap well with DLA Piper’s practices.

“It is just a really nice fit,” he said.

Moore also said they have common clients with DLA Piper, including GlaxoSmithKline, Bristol-Myers Squibb, AstraZeneca, and Amgen.

Nickel focuses on complex litigation, including product liability and pharmaceutical litigation. Moore does pharmaceutical work, but also other litigation, including unfair trade practices, state attorney general matters, governmental fraud and qui tam, consumer class actions, business torts, and commercial transactions.

“Mike and Matt are both highly-regarded and exceptionally qualified litigators whose addition further strengthens our presence in Dallas and Texas generally,” John Gilluly, managing partner of DLA Piper’s Texas offices, said in a statement.

Because of the volume of lateral hiring activity in Dallas in recent months, Moore said he and Nickel decided to look around. “We worked with a couple of recruiters. We ended up talking to a number of different firms through a process that lasted several months. There were some very good options. The best choice for us is DLA,” he said.

Moore said he and Nickel joined their new firm on Feb. 2 and expect some associates to join them in the future.

Donald Hammett, who succeeded Moore as managing partner of the Dentons Dallas office, did not immediately provide a comment.

The Andrews Kurth lawyers who recently joined DLA Piper’s Dallas office include partners Marc Katz, Isabel Crosby and, Rob Hoffman. A number of Andrews Kurth lawyers in Texas have left the firm in recent weeks as the Houston-based firm nears a merger with Virginia firm Hunton & Williams. Also in Dallas, DLA Piper recently hired corporate partner Steven Bartz, who left Thompson & Knight.

In Texas, DLA Piper has offices in Dallas, Houston and Austin.
