Ryan Carney sports a broad smile in the photo accompanying his biography on the Vinson & Elkins website. But Carney, a tax partner in V&E’s Houston office, looks even happier in a photo taken after the Houston Astros won 5-1 in Game 7 of the World Series this week.
Celebrations over the team’s victory are planned for Friday at V&E and other Houston law firm offices, including at Bracewell, where lawyers and staff are being encouraged to wear their orange Astros gear. They also are allowed to take off work to watch a celebratory parade Friday afternoon that will wind through the city’s downtown streets, where plenty of law firms occupy high-rise offices.
“We are not closing, but we are encouraging people to check with their supervisors,” and if possible, go and enjoy the parade, said Melissa Anderson, a V&E spokesperson.
“As part of the celebration, we’ll be having a casual Friday. Lawyers and staff will also be able to leave early to attend the parade,” Jay Plum, a Bracewell spokesperson, said.
Houston city workers are scheduled to shut down the parade route at 1 p.m. After the parade a rally is scheduled to take place at Houston’s City Hall.
