Birmingham, Alabama, litigation firm Lightfoot, Franklin & White, which opened an office in Houston in January of this year, has expanded with the hiring of civil litigator Angela Bongat as of counsel.

Bongat joins partner Jerry Rios, who is managing the Houston office, and a contract lawyer who also works in the office.

“Lightfoot Franklin has a great reputation in Birmingham and I thought it would be an exciting opportunity to be part of their plans for growth in Houston,” Bongat said.

Bongat practiced at Hartline Dacus Barger Dreyer in Houston before joining Lightfoot Franklin right before Hurricane Harvey hit Houston. She does defense side work in general civil litigation, product liability, personal injury and insurance coverage, but declined to identify her clients.

Rios said he expects the firm to add more lawyers in Houston because of client demand for work in Houston and the Southwest.

Jeffrey Patterson, a Hartline Dacus partner in Dallas who is the firm’s managing partner, did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment on Bongat’s departure.

Commenting on Bongat’s departure, Jeffrey Patterson, a Hartline Dacus partner in Dallas who is the firm’s managing partner, said “Angela was a valued member of the Hartline family. “We wish her all the best.”
