Who is the best judge in Dallas?
Unfortunately, there’s no scientific way to tell. But a recently released judicial evaluation poll from the Dallas Bar Association at least gives the public a look at which judges lawyers believe are doing an “excellent” job of running the city’s courtrooms.
The poll conducted in May 2017 questioned 894 lawyers about the preparedness, impartiality and temperament of each member of Dallas federal, state and county judiciary. And attorneys were asked to rate a judge’s performance with an “excellent,” “acceptable” or “needs improvement” in each of those categories.
Here are the Dallas federal, state and county judges who got the highest percentage “excellent” ratings based on their overall performance:
U.S. District Judge Sidney Fitzwater, 84 percent; U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Harlin Hale, 86 percent; U.S. Magistrate Judge David Horan, 78 percent; Fifth District Court of Appeals Justice Craig Stoddart, 72 percent; 116th State District Judge Tonya Parker, 81 percent; County Court at Law No. 5 Judge Mark Greenberg, 75 percent; 292nd Criminal District Court Judge Brandon Birmingham, 84 percent; County Criminal Court No. 1 Judge Dan Patterson, 83 percent; and 303rd State District Family Court Judge Dennise Garcia, 73 percent.
