Fed up by years of declining bar exam passage rates—and looking for explanations—the deans of Texas’ 10 law schools have convinced the state’s highest court to hold a magnifying glass to the rigorous exam.

This summer, the Texas Supreme Court created the Task Force on the Texas Bar Examination, a 12-member group that will be studying a broad array of questions about the test that determines who can practice law in the Lone Star State. On Sept. 16, the group—law deans, bar exam administrators, attorneys and an appellate justice—will first meet in person to get started on its charge.
