Judge Michelle Slaughter was found not guilty of violating ethics rules and the Texas Constitution by posting on Facebook about criminal cases that were pending in her court.
A special court of review ruled in a Sept. 30 per curiam opinion that the State Commission on Judicial Conduct did not meet its burden to prove that Slaughter violated the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct and the constitution. The court—a panel including Ninth Court of Appeals Justice Charles Kreger, 13th Court of Appeals Justice Gina Benavides and 11th Court of Appeals Justice John Bailey—dismissed the commission’s previous public admonition of Slaughter and found the judge not guilty of three charges related to her social media use.
