Jury sides with driver sued for hitting bicyclist

On June 20, a jury found a bicyclist mostly to blame for a crash with a car that she claimed was caused by the driver. In 2008, Laurel Welkey was biking in Houston. She claimed that she entered a crosswalk after Leslie Beckman came to a stop at a red light. Beckman unexpectedly pulled forward and tried to make a right turn, giving Welkey no time to avoid colliding with the side of her car, she claimed. Beckman said Welkey darted into the street and was the sole cause of the collision.
