In tough economic times, consumer protection for real estate buyers and sellers is front-page news. But it’s an ongoing responsibility for Loretta DeHay. She’s the general counsel and deputy administrator of the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC), the state agency that licenses real estate professionals in Texas.

“Just about every person that deals with real estate, we regulate them, both residential and commercial,” DeHay says. That comes to about 150,000 licensees, including real estate brokers, salespeople, home warranty companies, time-share developers and home inspectors, she says.
