West Texas district judge Roy Ferguson—celebrated for his community involvement and constructive advice, though perhaps best known for assisting a bemused “cattorney” through a virtual hearing in 2021—will not be seeking reelection, he announced this week.
“I’ve always wanted to serve in the best possible way I could, to help as many people as I can,” Ferguson told Texas Lawyer. “That opportunity has expanded and grown as a result of the experiences I’ve had. It is my intention to continue to help as many people as I can, as broadly as I can. I don’t know where that’s going to take me just yet, but that is my goal.”

Judge Roy Ferguson of the 394th Judicial District Court of Texas, covering Brewster, Culberson, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, and Presidio counties.
