A special court of review has vacated sanctions imposed by the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct against former Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt, finding that her actions that led to the sanction occurred when she was a judge in name only.

The special court of review wrote in a 10-page opinion Tuesday that the commission’s interest in restricting members from “injuring public confidence in the integrity of the judicial  branch” wanes when the judge performs no judicial role and is instead an executive or legislator.
