A federal judge on Thursday rescheduled Michael Avenatti’s retrial in his wire fraud case to Nov. 2 after declaring a “new chapter in this case” will be “characterized by corroboration, cooperation and communication.”

U.S. District Judge James Selna’s calls for a more cordial approach to a long contentious case weren’t met with immediate enthusiasm: After the judge suggested enlisting a bench colleague for “a settlement conference,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Brett Sagel immediately said prosecutors will not agree to such a process, so the idea is probably moot.
