A divided U.S. Supreme Court, narrowing the scope of the Voting Rights Act, on Thursday upheld two Arizona voting laws challenged as racially discriminatory.
Justice Samuel Alito, writing for the court’s six conservative justices, said that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit applied the wrong analysis to Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act in striking down the two laws which restricted the collection of ballots by third parties and out-of-precinct voting.
