F. Lee Bailey, the dramatic criminal defense lawyer who represented Sam Shepherd, Patty Hearst, the Boston Strangler, the My Lai Massacre commander and O.J. Simpson, died Thursday in Atlanta. He was 87.

Evening network news shows reported his death Thursday, as did The Associated Press, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The New York Times. The Times quoted his son confirming his father’s death in hospice care. The son said his father had moved to Georgia last year to be near another son while dealing with unspecified health issues.
