The Knight First Amendment Institute and the ACLU of Texas are suing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in federal court for blocking individuals on Twitter who posted critical tweets of him, days after the U.S. Supreme Court dismissed a similar challenge against former President Donald Trump as moot.

The new lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, alleges that Paxton’s blocking of the nine individuals named in the suit is unconstitutional because it violates their right to speak in a public form, as well as “their right of access to important government information, and their right to petition the government for redress of grievances.” The Knight First Amendment Institute is also a plaintiff in the case.
