The Georgia lawyer arrested Friday for his part in the riots at the U.S. Capitol faces only charges about entering a restricted building and disrupting the orderly business of Congress. But an affidavit by an FBI agent suggests that W. McCall Calhoun at least contemplated much more violent activities and reveled in what he called the “hostile takeover” of the national legislature by supporters of President Donald Trump.

Special Agent Ryan E. Genry stated that the FBI became aware of Calhoun nine weeks ago, when “a concerned citizen” telephoned the bureau to report that Calhoun was making threats on social media. They included, according to the affidavit: “some of you will live long enough to be exterminated with extreme prejudice”; “it’s going to be hard to buy a beer when Democrats are being shot on site [sic];” and “we are going to kill every last communist who stands in Trump’s way.”
