Former Judge Alexandra Smoots-Thomas of Houston, who was convicted of wire fraud and still faces an aggravated assault case, is no longer an attorney in Texas.

Smoots-Thomas, who presided for 10 years over Harris County’s 164th Civil District Court, resigned her law license rather than facing a lawyer discipline case. The Texas Supreme Court recently accepted her resignation, found she had committed attorney misconduct and ordered her to surrender her bar license and stop holding herself out as an attorney.
